Tis The Season to Go Boating

It’s that time of the year that I so dearly love. The Marina is full of energy with new and seasoned boaters jumping aboard their boats to get festive out on the water and I get so excited seeing all of our Chris Craft and Regal boats dominating the Harbour in absolute style!

Christmas has certainly come early with the arrival of our magnificent  56 Absolute Flybridge

Excited is an understatement, when it comes to the feeling I get seeing our Absolute 56 adorning Rose Bay Marina, like a rare and magnificent gem.

Like the new owners of this boat, our expectations have been so far exceeded that we know we're about to revolutionise the big boat market, just as we have done so   with our existing segment.

I was lucky enough to experience the drive of the 56 Absolute and I was literally blown away by her grunty performance. I've been on a lot of big boats and this one would win any race against her competitors in a heart beat.

Absolute is heralded as an IPS Pioneer and is proudly setting the benchmark!

On order is the  Absolute 45  which was just launched at the Cannes Boat Show! Set for stardom, this is one model that is going to create massive waves in Sydney!

The Absolute 64 Fly, just launched at the Cannes Boat Show and enroute to her new home at Rose Bay Marina! The countdown until her arrival begins!

We were excited, albeit not at all surprised, that our brilliant Regal 2100 has been named Australia's Greatest Trailer Boat

To add a delicious cherry on top, we couldn't more proud of our Regal 2100 being awarded Australia's Best Trailer Boat! She's one of our biggest selling models and we love her for so many reasons but namely because she's comparable to a 23 or 24 foot in another brand and her FasTrac Hull promises the smoothest and driest ride on the market as well as giving you 26% better performance from her engine and 30% better fuel economy. There's not too many 21 footers out there that can take on Sydney Harbour chop with style and grace, but this baby aims to please!

Boat Show Glitz and Glamour

Sydney Boat Show 2013 was amazing and just like every year, mother nature did her part to make sure the show was a huge success!

What a gorgeous view of our incredible stand!

It was all a bit of a blur but I do think I spoke to each and every one of the $68,000 attendees and was a very proud Mum showing off our beautiful boats

A massive congratulations to Daniel and Janice on their beautiful new Regal 24 FasDeck!
There's something about looking at beautiful boats with a cool city backdrop!
Plenty of admiration for our beautiful boats!

Introducing Absolute Yachts

INTRODUCING ABSOLUTE YACHTS

As many of you know, Steve and I are absolutely in love with european built boats that ooze style, performance and innovation. It will come as no surprise then that on our last trip to Cannes Boat Show, that we would both immediately fall in love with Absolute Yachts. It's true, my heart skipped a beat when I viewed the Absolute range and I knew instantly, this was the next brand for us to represent in Australia.
Absolute Yachts 40 STL

Absolute Yachts 40 STL
I absolutely love the 40STL which is a boat made for 'outdoor life without limits'. This is the perfect Harbour cruising boat that begs to be taken off-shore and for weekends away or simply entertaining friends and family on a day out cruising.

Absolute 55 Fly

This model is the most modern, spacious and airy 55 foot flybridge that we've ever seen and the response to date has been unbelievable!
Absolute 55 Fly

In 2006, Absolute developed a partnership with Volvo Penta IPS that promises to make even the newest boater an absolute professional!

Absolute 55 Fly
Check out the amazing hydraulic platform! No belly flops on the Absolute 55!

Absolute 55 Fly
What is the best highlight to boating in the Australian sun? I'm thinking lazy Sunday lunches in the cockpit with the cool ocean breeze in my hair! This is living!

Absolute 70 STY
The beauty of the hard enclosure is boating all year round. I know most people relate boating to hot summer days but actually some of my favourite boating has taken place at night or in winter. With the glass enclosure, to open it up on those sunny days or keep it enclosed for shelter!  The Boating Season just got longer...

Absolute 70 STY
An absolute floating apartment  that begs to embrace some of our finest views, the 70 STY is one boat the whole family could live on in absolute comfort and pleasure.

Absolute 70 STY
I've never seen so much natural light and space employed in any 70 foot boat before. My dream home and my dream boat just became one!

Absolute 72 Fly
 The 72 Fly...wow factor...draw droppingly beautiful! Speechless...

Things You Need to Think About if You're Looking to Buy a New or Second Hand Boat!

Buying a boat can be a difficult decision to make. It's a great idea to do as much online research as possible and then visiting a Boat Show is a great way to see various models back to back!

Buying a boat is one of the most exciting purchases you will ever make as it truly is an investment in your lifestyle. It's so important that you choose wisely however, as the old saying, "the best 2 days of your boat is the day you buy your boat and the day you sell your boat" can be true if you buy a boat that doesn't live up to your expectations.

I had a customer who visited us at the Boat Show last year. He'd just purchased a brand new Glastron and he was so excited about his purchase, until, that is, he stumbled upon our Chris Craft. Immediately he knew, he'd chosen the wrong boat. He decided to purchase our new Chris Craft and sold his brand new boat, which hadn't even been delivered. As a result he did experience a financial loss in having to do this. He was happy with his decision, however and he loves sending me update photos and telling me just how much attention he gets when he is out cruising around Sydney Harbour.

Boats can be like cars and you certainly get what you pay for. Don't be fooled by a 'steal' though, as if it seems too good to true, it probably is. You don't buy a 95 model Lancer expecting it to perform like a 2012 Limited Edition Bentley. The same can be said for boats and perhaps a little more so, considering the only thing your boat has to do is give you a pleasurable experience. With boating it's about the journey and never just about the destination, which is more of a reason to buy a good quality boat over a cheap one.

When you're talking to a seller, ask the following questions:-

Why are you selling the boat?

If their answer is due to an upgrade, ask them if it is the same brand or another brand. If the owner is upgrading to the same brand, you can be confident that they've had a great experience with this boat and it's more likely to be a good option for you.

If however, they're getting out of boating altogether or just this brand of boat, the chances of this boat not living up to their expectations are quite high and therefore, it might be the same for you.

Ask to view the full service history of the boat and do know if the boat is about 5 years old, you're likely to be footing a bill for replacing the manifolds and risers etc. Most boaters in the know, tend to upgrade at the 5 year mark, due to the maintenance required and this is generally the point at which expensive re-builds can come into play.

If the boat receives positive feedback, do make sure the areas where the owner goes boating is similar to where you will be boating. Most boats will perform well on flat water but do remember, if you're boating in choppy conditions, it's important to have a good hull design, just like that of a deep vee hull by Chris Craft or the patented Fast Trac Hull by Regal Boats.

Make sure you get a marine survey carried out on any second hand boat. This is the most important thing to do as, although it's still not a guarantee on the quality of the boat, it will certainly give you an idea of anything that needs to be fixed, which can then be used as part of your pricing negotiations.

Consider the following questions before you start your research:-

How many people do you want to take out boating at any given time?

You need to know what size boat will suit your every need. Whilst it's nice to share this luxury with your friends and family, ultimately, it should be all about you. Narrowing down the maximum amount of people you want on your boat is great so you can then work out the size you should be looking at.

Do you want to trailer your boat or keep it on a mooring?

It's obviously cheaper to buy a boat on a trailer but then you have to work out where you will store your boat and trailer AND of course, you need to remember the extra work involved each and every time you wish to take your boat out.

If you decide to trailer your boat, you need to remember the restrictions in what size you can buy.

If you decide to keep your boat in a berth or a mooring, there will be monthly payments involved and this varies due to the area you choose. Always try to choose an area that is close to where you live so as to keep it nice and simple.

Obviously if you're keeping your boat in the water, you will have the expense of anti-fouling as well as ensuring the maintenance of your boat is upheld.

MAINTENANCE POINTERS FOR A BOAT KEPT IN THE WATER

The most important point is to look at is the latest technology to ensure the ongoing integrity of your boats, which has come a long way.

To protect the overall condition of your engine/s, you should ideally start your boat fortnightly but no less than monthly! This will stop salt water drying onto the mental components where corrosion begins.

In particular, the Ocean X Drives by Volvo are absolutely brilliant if you're planning on keeping your boat in the water.

OCEAN X DRIVE  The Ocean X Drive is a titanium-ceramic coating and new sensor technology that encases the leg of the Volvo engine as fitted in the factory. This is the latest technology that has been stringently tested and proven to stop corrosion from salt water and any surface damage that can be caused in daily use (for example hitting a rock causing a crack that would generally lead to ongoing corrosion but the ceramic coating will prevent this). This coating is up to 4 times more effective than a standard engine. The titanium ceramic coating is highly durable, flexible and covers the entire drive for maximum protection.

In addition to the new OceanX coating, Volvo Penta added two electronic sensors to help protect internal components of the drive*. These sensors provide audible and visual  warning alerts to help boaters avoid expensive repairs:

The Drive sensor monitors the quality and level of the drive’s critical gear lubricant.
The U Joint Bellows sensor alerts if water intrudes in the bellows area.

FRESH WATER COOLING
This comes standard WITH the Ocean  X Drive engine option. This allows for fresh water to cool the engine and not salt water (which is a standard option). Salt water naturally eats at the very base of a marine engine and with Fresh Water Cooling you will benefit with a longer engine life due to:-

No corrosion -  By replacing corrosive Salt-Water with Fresh Water, you will prevent corrosion damage.
No scale - Complete elimination of scale build up inside the water passages of the engine.  The salts that exist in seawater, as well as "hard" fresh-water create scale that will restrict proper coolant flow and heat transfer.

PROPER ENGINE TEMPERATURE
-  By converting to Fresh Water Cooling, you can bring the engine temperature up to its designed operating temperature, which in turn gives you:-
- Improved fuel economyLess engine wearNo crankcase condensationNo oil dilutionNo sludge

Of course, you need to remember you get warranty when you buy a new boat and generally the post sales service from a dealer will be a much needed asset over buying from a private seller who will offer you no service at all. Especially if you're new to boating, knowing there is someone you can call is great security for you.

Whether you're buying new or second hand, when you're visiting the boats you've shortlisted, it's always beneficial if you have an experienced boater to attend with you. That way, they can ask the questions needed to ensure all the information is given to you so you can make an informed decision.

From someone who has been in love with boating for 10 years now, I can honestly say, boating is one of the most special and memorable experiences you can ever have and one I would definitely recommend to anyone who is toying with the idea. I cannot express how many times I've been thanked by my customers for literally changing their lives, which is testament to why you should all take a leap of faith and jump aboard what is set to enhance your lifestyle!

Happy Boating!
